Family Funday 5th May

Despite the weather turning much cooler for the Bank Holiday Monday, the Funday was well attended and a very successful event run jointly by the community trust and the cricket club. A friendly cricket match was enjoyed by spectators, many watching from the bar or the new meeting room.

The BBQ was busy with sales of burgers and sausages, and refreshments, including a range of homemade cakes, were on sale. The cricket club ran a tombola and provided a range of bouncy castles for children. The refreshments and a range of fete games were provided by a team of volunteers raising £750 towards the refurbishment of the play area. Thanks to all who provided cakes, prizes or spent the afternoon serving refreshments or running a stall, often standing out in the chilly wind.

Prize winners include:
Guess the Weight of the Cake- Heather and Barbara
Sweets in the Jar – Steff
Guess the Name of the Bear – Doreen
Welly Wanging – Graham, Jack and Maddie
Bean Bag Throw – Wilf

Grand Raffle Draw

Over the summer months, tickets will be available to purchase and to sell to friends and family to raise money towards the improvements to the village play area. Some of the current equipment is in urgent need of replacement, and further funds would also enable us to provide equipment to engage a wider age range of children.  These facilities are regularly used by local children and children who visit families within the village. They are also used by families from Sessay Cricket Club and visiting teams. Generous donations and fundraising have already been made, and we are hoping the Grand Raffle Draw will help us reach our fundraising goal or beyond. Tickets on sale in June.

Refurbishment

The plans for phase 3 of the refurbishment of the hall are well advanced.

This is the final phase and we are installing toilet facilities into each of the changing rooms, a small kitchenette within the bar area, bi-fold doors onto a patio area and repositioning disabled access. Also, a new entrance from the main hall into the bar and updating the bar’s service area, heating, electrics, carpets and decoration. Outside work is to include a patio area and complete the external re-cladding. For the kitchenette area, we would be very grateful if anyone is replacing a kitchen to receive their existing one.

There is a shortfall in the funds required to commence the work. We continue to hold fundraising events, apply for grants (now more difficult as we have successfully exhausted those available and relevant to us)  and have gratefully received and will continue to appreciate any donations.

We are very grateful for the support and hard work of those involved in raising the funds and to those who have donated to the project.

Kitchen Units required

If anyone is currently refurbishing their kitchen or planning to do so soon, we would be very interested in your old units. They would help a lot with the new kitchenette planned for the refurbishment of the Bar area of the village hall this Autumn. Please get in touch here.

Children’s Play Area

Earlier this year, we had to condemn a piece of equipment in the children’s play area. We are actively raising funds to replace the equipment. To date, we have received a grant from the Parish Council and the Jack Brunton Trust and have held several fundraising events. We plan to install the equipment in the Autumn if fully funded.
