Gardners Q&A
Saturday 13th June at 7.30 pm
You are warmly invited to a Gardeners’ Question Time with Sarah Hopps and Mike I’Anson at Sesay Village Hall on Saturday 13th June at 7.30 pm. This is your opportunity to ask all those gardening questions you’ve been storing up!
Our experts bring a wealth of knowledge and experience:

🌿 Sarah Hopps loves sharing her enthusiasm for plants and planting. She has previously been a broadcaster on Radio York and Gardeners’ Question Time, and has spoken at both the Harrogate Flower Show and the Great Yorkshire Show.
🌱 Mike I’Anson was head gardener at a five‑acre private estate, where he led a team through a major five‑year restoration project. He later became Garden Manager at Helmsley Walled Garden, retiring in 2019.
Tickets are available from 1st April. Please click HERE

Sessay Bowls Club
The season is already underway. On Monday June 1st we are away at Sowerby Flats in the Topham Trophy. Also upcoming in June in the Galtres League are away matches at Stillington on June 15th and 11th, and home matches against Sowerby Flats on the 8th. In the Hovingham League, we are home to Thirsk on the 11th and 18th, and away to Stetrington on the 4th. Also we play host to Gosfoth Bowls Club on June 29th in the afternoon as Gosforth tour clubs in the north of England. You are welcome to come and watch, especially on a sunny evening.
The club always welcomes new members, and the Saturday Morning 10:00 am sessions are a good time to start. All you need are flat-soled shoes! There are bowls and people to help with the basics, all the way up to competition level (which isn’t high!). The club plays in two local leagues, and the competition is friendly, helpful and supportive. All ages welcome. We have members aged 16 and upwards.

Sessay Scarecrow Festival
Thanks to everyone for making Sessay Village Scarecrow Festival a success whether by creating one of the fabulous scarecrows on display, by volunteering to help on the refreshments, BBQ or one of the many fundraising games and activities, or by coming along to complete a Scarecrow Trail and enjoy the afternoon.
The weather stayed fine and the event was visited by many who had a go at the scarecrow trail. The most correct answers were achieved by about 10 people from which one winner, Louis Cobb, was drawn at random (Answer list attached).
Unfortunately, no votes were made for a winning scarecrow- maybe nobody could decide. As a thank you for everyone’s contribution all entrants were place in a draw which was won by the scarecrow entered by Marg Algie.
A total of £1854.50 was raised towards Village Hall funds which is amazing
Here are 3 of the 33 scarecrows. You can see all the rest here

Sessay Village Bar
Sessay Village Bar is open in its fully refurbished state. Come and have a look! It’s cricket season now, so Junior Practice is on Friday at 6:00 pm with the bar open and burgers and hot dogs on offer. After the cricket, the bar is open until everyone has gone home. All welcome!
Footpaths
Footpaths and tracks around Sessay are precious and few. The farmers do their best, but at certain times of the year, the routes can be obscure. There may be an opportunity to replace and add to the footpath signs and markers. With this in mind, please can anyone wandering the local area, who notices a missing or damaged sign, take a photo and note the map reference or better still, ‘What-Three-Words’ location and forward to: John MacPherson by email
