Craft Day
Saturday, October 17th 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
We would love for you to join us at our first village Craft Day at Sessay Village Hall.
This event will be led by a team of volunteers from the village who have taken part in a course led by NYCC Adult Education to develop a range of new crafting skills. The course aims not only to teach new skills but also to encourage those attending to share these skills with the wider community. The programme focused on community development and sustainability. Items used to create crafts will consider recycling and the use of items that may otherwise be thrown away.
The event allows those who have taken part to share their skills and bring those from the village and further afield together to share activities and food, whilst fundraising for the village hall.
This Craft Day gives you the opportunity to sample up to 3 different craft activities. Coffee/Tea and Lunch included.

Macramé Workshops
Thursday November 19th and 26th at 6:00 pm
There are two festive workshops with the Knotty Queen. You will learn how to create a Christmas Tree Garland. They are held on Thursday 19th November and Thursday 26th November at 6:00 pm. The ticket includes tea/coffee and a mince pie. Also, there is a pop-up bar and raffle. There are only 10 tickets per workshop, so book early. Christmas Fayre
Saturday 21st November 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Advanced Notice of our very popular Christmas Fayre. There will be an even larger range of stalls including pottery, cards, arts and crafts, food, gifts and a tombola. Breakfast butties, tea, coffee, homemade cake and mulled wine will be served. FREE ENTRY.

Book Swap Shelf in the Village Hall
Please make use of the book swap shelf in the village hall if you are using the village hall (next to the kitchen door). There is a wide range of books available already. Feel free to take or borrow books, ideally adding a small donation to the collection tin or donating further books to the shelf.

In Conversation with Ricky Tomlinson

Ricky Tomlinson is coming to Sessay Village Hall for a special live show packed with stories, laughs and classic Scouse humour. Best known as Jim Royle in The Royle Family, Ricky will be sharing tales from his incredible career on stage and screen. Hosted by BBC Radio Merseyside presenter Asa Murphy. So come and listen to tales and celeb stories and have a Christmas sing-along with Jim!
Every ticket includes a meet and greet after the show with a Christmas-themed photo opportunity with Jim and his elf helper, naughty Ken. Full Bar Service.

These are not village hall events; however, the community benefits from a great night out, hall hire, and bar takings, and the organisation makes money from well-supported events. Everyone wins.
Sessay Bowls Club
We’re at the end of the season! The Finals Day is on Sunday, September 6th, with the Rounthwaite Cup competition starting at 14:00, including all members who wish to bowl. Each knockout round will consist of 7 ends using 4 bowls, with a final of 9 or 11 ends (Decide on the day)
During the afternoon, we will also hold a Spider event (where everyone bowls one bowl towards a single jack in the centre of the green – fun and chaos!)
We will provide afternoon tea during the event. Anyone is welcome to watch.
Cricket Meets Bowls – A Battle of the Green
To mark the approaching close of the summer sporting season, Sessay Cricket Club took on Sessay Bowls Club in a highly competitive and thoroughly good-humoured, 12-end bowls match on Monday 25th August.
With plenty of spectators turning out to watch, there was even some confusion about who to support! One thing was certain – the average age on the green was considerably lower than you’d normally expect at a bowls competition, and it was fantastic to see such a wide range of ages coming together simply to have fun.
The cricket team had shown plenty of confidence and bravado in the build-up, with talk of bets and a firm belief that the bowlers were in for a tough evening. That confidence was slightly less evident when the Bowls Club patiently took everyone through the rules immediately before play began! An early lead for one of the cricket teams soon restored some confidence and sparked plenty of lively banter across the green. Ultimately, the Bowls Club proved too strong and secured a clear victory, but the cricket teams were worthy opponents, finishing with some very respectable scores, particularly given that many were first-timers!
Whether the Bowls Club will manage to poach a few cricketers remains to be seen, but over a cuppa and some excellent homemade treats provided by the Bowls Club, the feedback from both sides was unanimous – it had been a brilliant evening’s entertainment.
There is already talk of a return match… this time on the cricket field! The Bowls Club may want to start brushing up on their batting before the cricketers get their revenge.
Sessay Carpet Bowls Club
Tuesday 1st September from 7.15 pm onwards
The new season starts straight away! Tuesdays are our club night every week, but our 2 teams also play matches away on Wednesdays and Thursdays. This lasts until well into March. Most Tuesdays we have 1 mat free for practice.
No special shoes or bowls are required. All are welcome to come along and have a go.
Our club at Sessay has 2 carpets and, like other clubs, has its own bowls. The bowls have to bend around a central wooden block in the middle of the carpet. Like outdoor bowls, the aim is to get your bowl as close as possible to the smaller white jack at the far end of the carpet. Each player has 2 bowls, and there are 4 players in a team. We have enough members for 2 teams two teams to take part in the Vale of Mowbray league.
Sessay Sing and Share
Sepetember 24th, 2:00 pm
Sessay Sing and Share continues to meet on the last Thursday of the month. We are still meeting in each other’s homes. If you are interested in joining us, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me on 07904 769270. If the group gets large, we will look into hiring the meeting room at the village hall. Our next sing-and-share is on Thursday, 27th August.

Parish Council Meeting
The next Parish Council meeting is on Thursday, September 24th, at 6:45 pm in the Village Hall
Sessay Village Bar
Sessay Village Bar is open in its fully refurbished state. Come and have a look! It’s cricket season now, so Junior Practice is on Friday at 6:00 pm with the bar open and burgers and hot dogs on offer. After the cricket, the bar is open until everyone has gone home.
This month the Cricket Season will come to a close and winter bar opening will follow seamlessly. Unfortunately, there will be no burgers, but the bar will be open from 7:30 pm and run by a rota of volunteers. If you fancy a shift of bar duty, please get in touch. All welcome!
Regular Events at the Village Hall
Ladies Bootcamp
A mix of core, resistance, cardio and boxing exercises each week. Fun, friendly sessions, suitable for all ages and abilities. £5.00 per session. Wednesday 7-8 pm. Contact Becca on 07770 286644 for more information
Pilates Class

Sessay Carpet Bowls Club
Every Tuesday evening from 7:15 pm onwards. There is usually one mat free for practice. Everyone gets a go. No special equipment needed. Bowls supplied. It’s a fun, relaxed evening. Spectators welcome too!
