I’ve just spent a happy hour at Sessay Village Hall looking through the vast range of pictures and documents on display. As a newcomer to the village, with only hints as to its history, I have found it fascinating.
The exhibition covers the last seven decades of life in Sessay. There are school photos from Sessay School for most years. A number of photo albums showing the extensive range of WI interests and achievements are displayed. Also featured is the success Sessay Cricket club. There are pictures of villagers with celebrities and even Margaret with the Queen. Other pictures range from combined harvesters to ceremonial tree planting taking in new school buildings, arial photographs and epic floods! There’s other royalty too.
Dennis Ayling has put the exhibition together and through a great deal of hard work collected this vast array of items. Thank you Dennis and everyone who has contributed.
This exhibition is a striking testament to what has been achieved by this dot of a village and inspiration for what we can do in the future together.
The exhibition continues until Sunday and the Village Hall is open every day this weekend.
Thank you Dennis for all your hard work putting together this interesting photographic history of the village. May I also take this public opportunity on behalf of all the members of Sessay WI to thank you for all your help throughout the year.
Such an interesting set of photos thank you everyone who contributed and to Dennis for collating them
Just a huge thanks for everyone who was kind enough to let me have their photographs and newspaper cuttings/articles from over the decades – without their generosity the exhibition would not have been possible . Pleased that people enjoyed it so many thanks to all that contributed . As for the WI a lovely group of young ladies who I am happy to help out in any small way.
