Thank You
Margaret “Watty” Watkinson would like to extend her thanks to everyone who joined in her 90th birthday celebrations. She is particularly grateful for all the good wishes, cards, presents, parties, and donations she received. Margaret enjoyed all her celebrations, which have finally finished!
The donations she received went to Yorkshire Cancer Research £605.75, and an equal amount to McMillan Cancer Support. A total of £1211.50 was raised. Thank you again.
Grand Raffle Draw
Over the summer months tickets will be available to purchase and to sell to friends and family to raise money towards the improvements to the village play area. Some of the current equipment is in urgent need of replacement, and further funds would also enable us to provide equipment to engage a wider age range of children. These facilities are regularly used by local children and children who visit families within the village. They are also used by families from Sessay Cricket Club and visiting teams. Generous donations and fundraising have already been made, and we are hoping the Grand Raffle Draw will help us reach our fundraising goal or beyond.
Look out for tickets at upcoming events both for the village and the cricket club. Details of the prizes and the date of the draw TBC.
Refurbishment
The second phase of the project is now complete. The bright and light multifunction meeting room with bifold doors leads out onto a patio area, and an umpires’ room has integrated toilet facilities and cedar cladding to the external walls. Within phase two, preparatory plumbing work for the changing rooms was also undertaken. We appreciate the very positive comments we are receiving about the renovation undertaken so far and the difference it is making to the hall’s users. We are pleased that we are receiving interest and enquiries from people wishing to use the hall, who now find it more attractive and appealing.
We are now able to concentrate on the detailed planning for phase three and fundraising to proceed. At this moment, there is around a £25,000 shortfall in funds required. We recently sent a letter to all the residents in the parish seeking help, and we are very grateful to those who have donated. As you are aware, every penny counts and all donations are gratefully received, no matter what the amount.
